Registration with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) is required before you can be employed as a teacher in Kenya, whether in public or many private institutions. Once registered, you receive a TSC number that stays with you throughout your career.
Most delays come from incomplete or unclear documents. Preparing everything properly before you begin is the single best thing you can do.
Documents commonly required
- National ID card
- KCSE certificate
- Teacher training certificate(s) and transcripts
- Degree or diploma certificates, where applicable
- A recent Certificate of Good Conduct
- Passport-size photograph
Preparing your scans
Scan every document in colour, flat and fully visible. Check that text is readable when you zoom in, and save each file in the format and size the portal asks for. Name files clearly (for example “KCSE-certificate.pdf”) so you attach the right one.
Application steps
- 1
Gather and scan documents
Use the checklist above and confirm the current list on the TSC website.
- 2
Apply for Good Conduct early
If you do not have a recent certificate, apply first — it can take time.
- 3
Complete the online form
Fill in your personal, academic and professional details exactly as they appear on your certificates.
- 4
Upload and pay
Attach your documents and pay the registration fee through the official channel.
- 5
Track your application
Check the status regularly and respond quickly to any request for more information.
Why applications get rejected
- Blurred or cropped scans
- Names that differ between documents (an affidavit may be needed)
- Missing or expired Certificate of Good Conduct
- Uploading the wrong document in a field
